The book we’re reading
Feodora — Feo — lives with her mother in a snowbound Russian forest, in a house full of food and fireplaces. They are wolf wilders: the opposite of animal tamers. When bored aristocrats tire of the wolves they've kept as pets, Feo and her mother take the animals in and teach them to be wild again — to hunt, to run, and to be wary of people.
Then General Rakov and the Tsar's Imperial Army arrive, cruel and unstoppable, and everything Feo loves is threatened. When the soldiers take her mother, Feo has no choice but to run — across a frozen country, with her wolves at her side, a soldier boy who dreams of dancing, and a growing band of children who decide it's time to fight back.
It's a fierce, beautiful adventure about courage, loyalty and the wild heart in all of us — snow and wolves and revolution, told in Rundell's spellbinding prose. Perfect for readers who love a brave heroine, a bitter winter, and a story with real stakes. Any edition is welcome; a suggested reading schedule is included.
